Adult Education Course

Adult Learning Principles

Description: As an assessment, I was tasked with designing a self-paced e-Learning course for intermediate-level trainers. The course was required to address e-Learning methodologies (virtual instructor-led training, and self-paced e-learning) as well as two other topics from a selected list. This project explores Blooms' Taxonomy and Adult Learning Strategies. The course was required to have animations, voiceovers, gamification, assessments, and supporting resources. This project allowed me to stretch my experience and implement new techniques. The training time expectation was 10-15 minutes for the Virtual Instructor Led Training section.

Result: This project allowed me to learn and practice new skills in the design process, such as creating the memory-style game.

Accessibility features: high contrast text to background, closed captioning on videos, ability to pause

Tools: Vyond, Articulate Storyline, Canva, PowToons

Gamification

For this element, I researched and learned how to create a matching game in Articulate 360. I experimented with multiple states, conditional triggers, and slide timing.  The result is a basic functional matching game.

Assessments

This module uses a variety of assessment tools. Given the audience of intermediate-level trainers, some sections of information are intended to be a review of information. To keep this review process engaging, the level of assessment questions are more complex. Feedback is provided for incorrect responses.

Animation

Rather than rely on an outside program such as Vyond or PowToons to provide animation, I used the tools readily available in Articulate to create an animation that synchronized with an embedded text to speech voice over.

Resources

Two supporting resources were created for this project: an infographic depicting a quick pro/con assessment of whether VILT (virtual instructor-led training) or self-paced e-learning will be the appropriate delivery method for training and a list of sample web tools for learner engagement. They are available by scanning a QR code within the module.
