Digital 'Breakout'

This learning module was designed using Google sites, Google docs and Google forms. This course was designed as a self-paced interactive lesson when members of the high school band were going out of state for a national competition. The goal was for them to be able to keep up with their instruction without an instructor-led course. Using the Florida state standards, I designed and published the course comparing scenes from Shakespeare's "King Lear" to the corresponding scenes from the older "Tragedy of Cordelia" and modern stage versions of the play.  Learners completed tasks on a Google doc using information from the presentation. These answers were then input to a Google form designed for self-correction and addressing misconceptions. The form results were available to the teachers. The course was embedded into the Canvas LMS platform.

Sample Work

Students were asked to translate Elizabethan English to modern English in order to understand the overall plot of key scenes in Shakespeare's "King Lear". A sample was provided to them as a guide.

Self Correcting Branches

As students completed each section, they were tasked with inputting a code. Correct codes would allow students to advance through the activity, while incorrect codes would redirect students to the area in need of correction.

Data

The activity was embedded into a Google Form which allowed for the collection of raw data. This data was utilized to determine what areas would need to be reviewed upon the student's return to school and to outline a plan for formal assessment. Student names and school ID numbers were collected allowing teachers to track which students had completed the activities.
